Air Berlin subsidiary Niki has announced it is starting flights between Vienna and Bratislava, with Austrian state broadcaster ORF claiming it will be the shortest commercial route in the world.
The flight between the capitals of Austria and Slovakia is reported to cover less than 50 kilometres with less than 20 minutes flying time, leading some observers to question whether it may be faster to take a bus.
Niki officials claim the route is aimed at Slovakians taking connecting flights from Vienna. Flights are due to start operating on April 1.
