Eurotunnel Le Shuttle broke a series of traffic records during the Christmas and new year period.
The Channel Tunnel service handled 217,791 cars, coaches and trucks between December 19 and January 4 – the highest number of vehicles ever transported in the group’s history.
The number represented almost 600,000 passengers using Le Shuttle services.
A total of 175,821 cars were carried, an increase of 8% over the previous all-time record.
Over 20,000 dogs and cats were carried in the period, an increase of 16% compared to the same time last Christmas.
More than 19,000 vehicles were carried in both directions between Folkestone and Calais in a single day on December 19 – the highest total ever recorded in a day in 20 years of operations.
Eurotunnel commercial director Jo Willacy said: “These results show that Eurotunnel Le Shuttle really is the preferred choice for customers crossing the Channel and justifies our decision to undertake a number of major investment programmes that will increase our overall capacity and enable us to offer an even greater frequency of departures over the coming years.”
