Air Astana introduces economy sleeper class

An economy sleeper class service is being introduced on flights from London by Kazakhstan carrier Air Astana.

Passengers can sleep in a lie-flat position by combining three economy seats in a cabin separate from business and economy class, with up to 12 seats available on each flight.

An economy sleeper class kit, containing mattress, business class pillow and duvet, is offered in addition to priority check-in, a 30kg baggage allowance, business class lounge access, priority boarding and a business class amenity kit.

The cost of the service is priced at the equivalent full economy class fare, according to Air Astana vice president worldwide sales Richard Ledger.

The new option is on Boeing 757s being offered on flights from Heathrow and Frankfurt from today (Tuesday) and Paris from March 29.

Ledger said: “I’m confident that discerning passengers flying from Astana to European destinations will enjoy this class of travel, whilst experiencing award-winning levels of service.”

Air Astana is a joint venture between Kazakhstan’s national wealth fund Samruk Kazyna and BAE Systems, with respective shares of 51% and 49%.
