Miles Morgan has expanded his portfolio to 13 travel agencies with the acquisition of a store in Gloucestershire.
Morgan bought the forward business of Discoveries Travel in Cirencester, which had gone into administration, and is now seeking additional staff.
Miles Morgan Travel has agencies in the southwest and Wales. Managing director Morgan said the acquisition was a coup for the company.
“It was difficult to get a shop in that area because it’s a great town with high footfall,” he said. “I’ve taken on the two excellent staff who worked at the Discoveries store, Rachel and Laura, so it’s a really good news story.
“I’m also hoping to take on two more staff.”
The store opened as Miles Morgan Travel on Monday, complete with signage, a new window and a refit to reflect the brand’s style.
“It’s been an easy transition,” said Morgan. “We have written to all of the store’s customers to let them know about the change and, of course, everyone’s bookings are safe.
“It is pretty much the same story as the shop we bought in Wells [in 2013] that we took over after it went into administration. That shop has proved amazingly successful and I’m sure this one will too.”
Morgan revealed that he was looking for a 14th outlet, in an undisclosed location.
He said business was “flying” and that March had been “astronomically busy”. Morgan said sales in the year to the end of March had been 20% higher than in the preceding 12 months.
“The great thing is that every shop is doing well. I know some companies have stores that don’t perform well, but all of ours are doing nicely.”
