Travel Counsellors reports surge in new agents

Travel Counsellors has reported a 54% rise in new agents joining the company in the last three months compared to the same period last year.

The company, which has over 850 agents across the UK and more than 500 overseas, added a new agent in the UK for every working day of the year so far.

The Bolton-based home working specialist has seen an increasing trend in those joining from corporate travel backgrounds, with business travel now one of its fastest growing areas.

Managing director, Steve Byrne, said: “We have got off to a flying start this year in terms of sales and those looking to enjoy the rewards and benefits of running their own home-based travel business as part of the company.

“On average each agent has increased their earnings by 12% since the start of the year, which shows the power of what talented travel professionals can achieve when given the tools, support and technology to deliver an exceptional level of service to their customers.

“We are also seeing substantial growth for corporate travel, which now accounts for 26% of global sales, with 15% of those that have recently joined the company specialising in this field.”

New marketing initiatives have been introduced to raise brand awareness and enable individuals to discover more about their potential as a Travel Counsellor.

This includes a dedicated radio campaign on Smooth FM and advertisements on the London Underground.

A new look website has been introduced at travelcounsellors.com/careers where visitors can hear first-hand from agents and staff though features such as interactive videos and downloadable brochures.

A series of mini conferences for its agents across the UK and Ireland are also being held this month.

Byrne added: “It’s a very exciting time for the company as we continue to invest in the support and technology we offer to our agents to enable them to grow their businesses.

“This includes new resource being added to our growing training and business development team and new developments and enhancements to our in-house dynamic packaging system Phenix.

“We want to let others know about the opportunity they have to build a hugely successful business in an industry they love, with the freedom and flexibility to take control of the product they sell, the margin they make and the level of personal service they can deliver to their customers.

“This has also never been more relevant for corporate travel, as more businesses look for a bespoke and more personal TMC to look after their business travel plans.”

The company operates in the UK, Ireland, Holland, Belgium, South Africa, Australia, Canada and Dubai with global sales for the financial year ending October 2014 at £428 million, an 11% increase on the previous year.
