French air traffic control strikes cancelled

The threat of further travel chaos has been lifted with French air traffic controllers withdrawing a strike threat.

Hundreds of flights were grounded due to two days of industrial action by controllers last week, stranding many passengers overseas and prompting easyJet to run a series of rescue flights.

The main air traffic controllers’ union, SNCTA, initially urged industrial action on April 16-18 and April 29 to May 2 – key holiday periods in France.

Planned action for this week was called off on Tuesday following talks with French ATC management.

The third walkout due to take place between April 29 and May 2 has been cancelled, Eurocontrol confirmed.
