INTERNET travel agency Travelocity is offering electronic tickets to customers who book their travel on-line.
Customers booking flights will be given a booking reference number instead of a conventional paper ticket.
The system is currently available on British Airways and United Airlines flights, although Travelocity expects to expand the number of e-ticket airlines over the next few months.
When a customer makes the booking on Travelocity, the site stores the flight and passenger information in the appropriate airline’s database. The customer then presents identification at check-in, either at a conventional counter or at a self-service boarding pass dispensing machine, and they are ready to fly.
Travelocity president Terrell Jones said: “E-tickets add a new dimension to Travelocity because passengers can, quite literally, click and fly. They do not even have to wait for the overnight delivery of paper tickets. It’s the fastest way to fly because it simplifies both booking and check-in for our members.”
