Inghams puts emphasis on skiing profits

INGHAMS is distancing itself from the battle for ski market share and concentrating on driving up profits.

Speaking at the launch of the operator’s 1999/2000 broc-hure, sales manager Laurence Hicks said it was planning a modest increase in capacity for next season.

He denied the move was due to distribution problems following consolidation in the market. The operator has also dropped its North American chalet programme after saying the product was too restricting.

“The quality of resorts and hotels meant not many people wanted to eat in their chalet every day,” he said.

Inghams has extended its insurance policy to enable customers to claim if pistes are closed because of too much snow. Previously refunds were only paid if there was too little snow. The move follows the avalanches last winter when pistes were closed for days.
