GO has confirmed it is dropping Stansted-Munich flights on March 26, blaming the decision on anti-competitive actions from Lufthansa.
The British Airways carrier has lodged a complaint with the European Commission over what it claims is a catalogue of unfair moves by Lufthansa to drive Go out of the market.
Go head of sales and marketing David Magliano said: “We have a very strong case that Lufthansa’s behaviour is anti-competitive, causing disproportionate losses for Go on the route.”
Magliano said advice from legal experts had led Go to believe that it had a case on at least three fronts.
The first allegation is that Lufthansa employed discriminatory pricing to target Go passengers; secondly, it used predatory pricing to undercut the airline; and thirdly, it dumped capacity on the route purely to affect Go. He added other airlines including Alitalia, SAS and Iberia had reacted aggressively to Go’s arrival, but none had employed the same tactics as Lufthansa.
Magliano also claimed Lufthansa would double return fares once Go stopped flying to Munich.
A spokesman for Lufthansa said Go’s accusations were unfounded.
“We are entitled to defend our home market with the utmost vigour,” he said.
He denied Lufthansa was set to increase fares once Go pulls out, saying there is a £55 return ticket available until the end of May.
