Foreign Office warns of imminent terror attack in Malaysia

British travellers have been warned of a potentially imminent terror attack in Malaysia.

The US embassy issued an advisory urging people to avoid Jalan Alor, in the capital Kuala Lumpur, based on “credible threat information” relating to the shopping district and surrounding areas.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) carried the warning on its website, while the Australian embassy also issued a similar alert to its citizens.

The FCO said the US had warned of a “potential terrorist act” and warned its citizens to avoid Jalan Alor and the immediate surrounded areas yesterday (Thursday).

The street, which is situated in the heart of the Malaysian capital, is known for its bustling street market and numerous food stalls.

Malaysia has arrested more than 100 supporters of the Islamic State (IS) group in the past two years, some of whom were allegedly plotting attacks in the country, ITV News reported.
