HILTON International is to become the first western company to operate a hotel in Kiev, the capital of the Ukraine.
The $56m Hilton Kiev is under construction and is due to open by the end of 2000. It will have 288 rooms and be situated in the city centre.
Hilton chief executive David Michels said the opening was part of the chain’s strategy of expansion into key central and eastern European cities.
“Hilton already operates hotels in Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic and we have projects under way for a second hotel in Budapest, and hotels in the gateway cities of Sofia in Bulgaria and Moscow in Russia,” he said.
