Hertz puts a brake on the transit client

THERE’S a lot of heart in the Hertz press office but it just doesn’t go as far as giving out complimentary vans to aid runners to Kosovo, it seems.

Generous members of the public have been collecting piles of food and clothes to take to the war-stricken Balkans only to find they have no transport.

Cue Hertz, whose name must spring to mind as a likely source of free van hire.

The car-hire giant has been besieged with requests but dare not release any of its fleet in case the vehicles come back in pieces.

Hertz public affairs manager Adrian Leighton, who Backchat can confirm is a real softie, said: “Our van guy says he has been getting five or six requests a day from the general public to give a free van.

“The public relations department has been getting its fair share of calls too but much as we would like to help them, there’s nothing we can do.

“We would never see those vans again.”
