Factfile: Bermuda

BERMUDA


Language and history: Bermuda is the oldest British colony. English is the native language.


Time difference: GMT -4hrs.


Visa requirements: not necessary for UK residents.


Currency: Bermudan dollar (BD$) which is equal in value to the US dollar, which is also accepted.


Transport: 20mph speed limit. Cars drive on the left. Car rental is not allowed on Bermuda, but mopeds can be easily hired at about $35 a day, including insurance. Buses are clean and punctual and take you to all the regular points of interest on the island. Exact change or bus tokens only are accepted. Taxis are plentiful and can be hired by the hour or metered. Ferries run on regular daily schedules to and from Hamilton, Paget, Warwick, Sandys and Somerset.


Eating out: two-course lunch $20; three-course meal from $30; bottle of beer $3.50; glass of wine $3.50.


Tipping: 15% service charge.
