SINGAPORE-BASED Sun Cruises is offering full refunds to passengers with bookings on Sun Vista, which sank off the coast of Malaysia 10 days ago following a fire in the engine room.
The ship was carrying 472 passengers at the time, 136 of whom were British. All were evacuated safely.
The cruiseline’s UK sales and marketing representative Gerald Fitzpatrick said Sun Cruises is considering whether to find another ship to replace Sun Vista.
The cruiseline was set up in 1997 after buying the ship from Celebrity Cruises.
Sun Cruises sells its holidays through 16 UK tour operators including Kuoni,Tradewinds and British Airways Holidays.
Passenger Shipping Association director Bill Gibbons said: “We don’t know why the fire broke out, why the fire couldn’t be contained or why the ship sank. The fact all the passengers and crew were safely evacuated is testimony to the success of the safety procedures in place.”
