Travel throughout Greece faces “severe disruption” today and tomorrow due to a strike by public sector workers.
Seamen and port workers will compound the difficulties by staging a separate four-day walk-out from early this morning.
The combined impact will affect rail, tram and metro services together with ferries and port operations throughout mainland Greece and its islands.
However, there is no indication that the industrial action will affect air travel, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said in an updated travel advisory.
The FCO expects the public sector workers’ walk out “severely disrupt” public transport services.
People planning to travel by sea have been urged to contact their ferry operator for further advice.
It is not clear what impact the action will have on cruise operations but strike action by port workers is likely to cause problems to ship calls across Greece.
