THE QEII’s £19.5m facelift at the end the year will aim to recreate the golden age of transatlantic travel.
Far from developing a more modern image for the ship, Cunard is focusing on the Art Deco look which epitomised the great liners of the early part of the century.
Cunard president and chief executive Larry Pimentel said: “The interior will express her stately grandeur in totally British terms.”
The refit, which begins on November 12 and will take four weeks to complete, will include an overhaul of its restaurants with new carpets, chairs and lighting.
Lounges, restaurants and bars will be lavishly refurbished while every cabin will have new furnishings.
The project will bring the amount spent on refurbishing QEII over the past 12 years to £175m. Amazingly, it was built for £29m.
