THE Broadcasting Standards Commission has upheld a complaint of unfair treatment by upmarket tour operator Voyages Jules Verne against BBCTVprogramme Weekend Watchdog after two of the operator’s customers complained about their holiday on the programme.
The couple had been warned that building works at their hotel in Madeira would cause ‘minimal inconvenience’ to their holiday and were offered alternative accommodation.
But the couple complained the building work had spoiled their holiday. The Commission considered the description of the hotel as a building site as unfair.
It also found that Weekend Watchdog had exaggerated the difference between the hotel and the alternative offered.
There were no complaints from the other 98 customers at the hotel and the Commission agreed that the failure to keep a promise to see how the other guests at the hotel had fared was also unfair.
