Airports within the Manchester Airports Group have reported a strong start to the summer with July passenger numbers up by more than 8% year-on-year.
The biggest rise of 10% came at Manchester airport which handled more than 2.8 million passengers.
Long haul traffic growth saw numbers rise by 70% to Pakistan, 30% to Qatar and 11% to the US.
A shift in travel away from Turkey, Egypt and North Africa due to security concerns has seen a boost in traffic to the Canary Islands, mainland Spain and France.
Stansted passenger numbers grew by 6.6% to 2.3 million, driven by increased capacity to European destinations and the introduction of British Airways flights.
Passengers using East Midlands airport rose by 6.3% to more than 570,000, with increases to Bulgaria, Croatia and Greece.
However, numbers using Bournemouth airport fell by 12.2% to just over 80,000 although summer destinations like the Canary Islands, Greece, Portugal and Spain all saw increases.
