Barrhead Travel agrees partnership with Travelife

Barrhead Travel is partnering with sustainability initiative Travelife to help encourage responsible tourism among holidaymakers and suppliers.

The Scottish agency chain will raise awareness of sustainable travel among its customers as part of the tie-up with the Abta scheme.

The company currently works with 100 hotels which have received Travelife accreditation and are seen as being socially responsible, with plans to increase this number in 2017.

The tie-in compliments existing partnerships Barrhead Travel has with international water aid charity Just a Drop and The Travel Foundation, which promotes environmental travel.

Barrhead Travel chief executive Sharon Munro said: “We are really pleased to announce this partnership with Travelife and it is another positive step forward in our CSR strategy.

“Sustainability is a key focus for us, and through our work with Travelife we will continue to educate both suppliers and customers about the impact it has on the environment.

“Thanks to our partnership with Travelife, customers can be confident when they book a holiday with us that they are helping to protect the destinations they travel to and ensuring future generations will be able to experience them too.

“This is a major step for Barrhead Travel in our mission to become a leader of sustainability within the travel industry.“

Travelife commercial director Sören Stöber added: “Leading tourism businesses are using Travelife to monitor their hotel supply chain and driving good sustainability practice in destinations.

“Together we will engage more and more holidaymakers and enable Barrhead Travel to offer more hotels that look after local communities and the environment alike.“
