Princess Cruises TV documentary to return during peaks

The latest in the series of TV fly on the wall documentaries filmed on board a Princess Cruises ship is to be shown during the peak new year booking period.

The six-part ITV documentary The Cruise will air on Thursdays at 8.30pm from January 12.

The series was filmed on board the 3,560-passenger Royal Princess in the Mediterranean this summer with Downton Abbey actor Hugh Bonneville providing the voiceover.

Each episode will give viewers insight into the day-to-day roles of the 1,400-strong crew.

Viewers will see how the team works together to keep the operations of the ship running smoothly including navigating the 141,000-tonne, 19-deck ship; preparing more than 20,000 meals a day and servicing 1,800 cabins.

Timothy Gallant from the ship’s passenger service desk, who appeared in the last of The Cruise, will feature again in the new documentary.

The cruise line’s UK and Europe vice president Tony Roberts said: “Following on from the success of series one, which averaged 3.5 million viewers and has received a National Television Award nomination, we are excited to see what series two has in store for Royal Princess’ crew and guests.”

Alicia Kerr, executive producer at factual documentary maker Wild Pictures, added: “We are delighted with the access Princess Cruises granted us to Royal Princess and can promise viewers a rich mix of compelling new stories.”
