CATALONIA’S MAIN COASTAL REGIONS
Costa Brava
Located in the northeast of Catalonia, it has many large beach resorts, including Lloret de Mar, with the greatest concentration of hotels in Spain. Other popular resorts along the Costa Brava include Tossa de Mar, Fanals, Calella de la Costa and Santa Susanna. There are also several small coves and fishing villages such as Cadaques, Llanca, L’Estartit and Calella de Palafrugell.
Costa Dorada
Situated in the southwest, the region is best known for the resort of Salou, which has large sandy beaches offering watersports and smaller, pine-back coves. Port Aventura theme park is nearby. There are a number of smaller resorts, including Cambrils, Calafat and Pins de Miramar along the coast, plus many villages.
Costa del Maresme
This is the modern name of the coastal region that is north of Barcelona. This region was previously known as Costa de Llevant or Marina. In the area there are a mix of wide beaches and small coves. There is also a sandy beach at Pineda de Mar, close to Calella, the capital of the region.
Costa del Garraf
Costa del Garraf is the name of the coastline just south of Barcelona. The region’s long sandy beaches are a popular weekend and summer destination for the inhabitants of Barcelona, while further south is Vilanova, the main beach resort for overseas holidaymakers. Sites also boasts a long sandy beach and an interesting promenade.
