Proposals fuel debate over shift of power

PROPOSED changes to ARTAC Worldchoice’s constitution have been criticised by some members who claim they give the board too much power.

Members are due to vote on the alterations before an annual general meeting on April 28 where 65% support is needed for the changes to go through.

Some said they feared a number of the proposals took power away from the regions, for example the rules over rejecting applications for membership. “I’m worried we might end up like the Advantage/Airtours tie-up,” said one.

Phil Turnbull, partner of Langley Leisure Services in Hertfordshire, said he was happy with 80% of the changes, but was concerned about some (see Letters, page 8).

But ARTAC chairman Colin Heal said:”A lot of these things have always been the case, but they were not spelled out in the constitution. The constitution hasn’t been changed for 21 years and the Constitution Committee felt it should be updated,” he said.
