A technology system enabling agents and operators to keep a check on the health and safety aspects of hotels they use around the world has just been released.
The intranet Tourcheck system is the brainchild of food safety experts Cristal International.
Its specialists will carry out a full hazard-analysis at hotels, identifying infringements of the law and other problem areas, and then draw up a user-friendly plan for each establishment that helps staff and management deal with risks and keep records of actiontaken.
Safety standards will comply with EU legislation and hotels featured on Tourcheck will be issued with an annual certificate of compliance.
Operators and agents signed up to the system will be able to see what action has been taken by individual hotels.
The system is being launched against a background of increasing anxiety among hotels, tour operators and insurance companies about rising compensation claims from holidaymakers who have suffered illness or injury abroad.
It is now estimated that more than ú50m worth of claims were made by British holidaymakers last year.
