n Norwich AIRPORT SET TO BREAK RECORDS
Norwich Airport expects to handle a record-breaking 315,000 passengers this financial year. To meet the rise from 279,000 in 1997/98, mainly due to new KLM UK flights toAmsterdam, the airport is investing ú1.9m in a new terminal. The facilityopens at the end of next month to give extra check-in desks, including channels for customers with justhand-luggage, abusiness-class lounge and more departure space.
n Air seychelles TO BAN SMOKING ON ALL FLIGHTS
Air Seychelles is banning smoking on its globalnetwork from April 1.The airline started thepolicy last October on flights from Paris, buthas decided to extendthe rule to its twice-weekly Gatwick service because of customer demand.
n CHINA AIrlINES LOOKS TO INCREASE CAPACITY
China Airlines is increasing capacity on its six weekly Amsterdam-Bangkok-Taipei services from March 28by replacing MD-11s with larger Boeing 747-400s. The switch for the carrier, which uses British Airways, British Midland and KLM UK to feed services from the UK, gives it 700 extra seats a week.
n BRAATHENS TO EXTEND ALLIANCE WITH KLM UK
KLMUK and partnerBraathens are extending their alliance onMarch 28 by improvingservices on the Aberdeen-Stavanger route. Thecarriers start a five-times daily codeshare flight operated by Braathens to replace Braathens’ thrice daily service.
