I am obviously very pleased that KimWonnacott of the Libra Group thinks that my plan for the Specialist Tour Operators’ Groupis a great idea (Travel Weekly February 24).
But forgive me if I’m wrong, but it seemed to me that the underlying message of the letter from the operator was that Libra doesn’t need such an organisation, because it alreadyprovides a wonderful deal for independent agents anyway.
If that is the case, then fine.
However, although my company also does a lot to demonstrate its support for independents – Cadogan hasn’t won a Travel Weekly Globe award for the past three years by accident – I still believe we can do better. Not only that, when non-competing specialist operators work together, then I am convinced that it makes a great deal of financial sense for allconcerned.
So it is companies with my can-do-better attitude that I want to see joining this newassociation.
Those who think they already do enough for the independent travel agents are obviously still free to plough their own furrow.
