GLOBAL TRAVEL GROUP AIMS TO JOIN NEW CLUB


The Global Travel Group has confirmed it has begun talks with Cadogan Holidays managing director Gary David with a view to its members joining the new Specialist Tour Operators’ Group(Travel Weekly February 17). David is hoping to form a band of around 15 operators to work with over 700 independent agents.


CRANDALL BACK WITH AMERICAN EXPRESS ROLE


Former American Airlines chairman and chief executive Bob Crandall is back in the travel business after a break of nine months. Crandall has joined American Express’ board of directors.


FAIRBURN LEAVES INTERVAL INTERNATIONAL


Andrew Fairburn, marketing director (Europe) of timeshare exchange company Interval International, has left after a year in the post. He has been replaced by Kim Keble-White, who was European marketing director at Utell International. Fairburn joined Interval early last year from upmarket coach operator Insight Holidays, where he was marketing director.


Jose Miguel, director of legal services at Interval, said Fairburn had left to pursue other business.


COSMOS PLEDGES TO RAISE RED NOSE CASH


Cosmos has pledged to donate £1 to Comic Relief for every booking made between March 8 and 14 from its summer ’99 late availability guide Hottest Offers. The operator is offering a holiday voucher to the agency raising the most money.


Several agents have signed up to the scheme including TV Travel Shop, Hays Travel, Travel City, Apollo and Travel House.
