Hi-tech moves head up 2000 tourism plans


NEW computerised booking and information systems form the cornerstones of the Government’s millennium UKtourism strategy.



The accommodation and travel technology will be brought in alongside new Internet systems to promote the UK overseas before 2000.



Culture secretary Chris Smith announced the initiatives while setting out a 15-point Tomorrow’s Tourism action plan at the Millennium Dome on Friday.



Smith also unveiled plans to fund more overseas promotions, a new strategic leadership body and integrated promotion of culture, heritage and countryside attractions.



London is to receive an extra ú4.5m to help the capital city exploit its position as the UK’s premier gateway.
