BRITISH Midland is taking over more Heathrow flights from Lufthansa, as exclusively revealed in Travel Weekly on April 8 last year.
From March 28, British Midland will use its own aircraft to operate Lufthansa’s current Stuttgart and Hanover services under a codeshare deal.
The deal will allow flights on both routes to increase to three a day from a double-daily service from Terminal One. Boeing 737s will continue to serve the cities, although British Midland takes delivery of new Airbus A320s this year, which will be used to replace the B737.
British Midland operates Heathrow codeshare flights for Lufthansa to Cologne/Bonn and Dresden, and on the Manchester-Dusseldorf route.
The UK carrier’s director of strategy and external affairs Alex Grant said the link with Lufthansa allowed British Midland to pursue a strategy of serving Europe’s business cities.
British Midland is expected to operate other Lufthansa routes from Heathrow, Manchester and Birmingham.
