Hypermarkets get ready for 24hr opening

HOLIDAY Hypermarkets is to become the first travel agency in the country to open around the clock.

Managing director John Donnelly said the Telford branch will open at 9am as usual next Tuesday and won’t shut until 8pm on Wednesday.

Donnelly said the company was picking a quiet night to test out its systems and then two weeks later planned to open on Friday and Saturday nights. If successful , this would be rolled out to its six hypermarkets.

Holiday Hypermarkets is a joint venture between West Midlands Co-op and United Norwest. First Choice has a 25% stake. There are plans for 24 hypermarkets by December.

Meanwhile, Rainbow Holidays is rumoured to be a target for First Choice. This has been denied by a spokesman for Rainbow parent West Midlands Co-op.
