CADOGAN Holidays managing director Gary David has reported significant interest among independents for his plans to offer higher commission in return for guaranteed racking and increased sales (Travel Weekly February 17).
David said he had received over 40 letters and several phone calls from agents and tour operators keen to work with the new grouping, which has been given the working title Independents Inspiration. David plans to have a band of around 15 operators that will work with 700 agents.
David said independents could receive up to 16% commission from operators, but would not have to commit to a certain level of sales.
“We want to get away from all that because these people are independent,” he said.
“They would guarantee racking, staff membership on educationals and provide their own representatives for training courses.”
So far, Mundi Color, Festival Cruises and Amathus Holidays have pledged to join Cadogan in the group. David said it would also recruit a city-break operator, insurance company and long-haul operator.
Seminars with agents around the country are planned for April and May.
