TTC keeps ahead of the pack with CD-ROM deal

THETRAVELTraining Company has released its first CD-Rom – a two-disc product offering the industry training on travel geography.

Head of sales and marketing Peter Holyoake said: “Research we have undertaken over the last couple of years indicates that theindustry is acquiring more CD-ROM equipment. Agencies and colleges are becoming more likely to use that equipment for training purposes.”

He expects it to be another six to 12 months before the use of CD-ROMs is widespread in the travel industry, but wants the TTC to stay ahead of the market.

Holyoake said the beauty of the product was that it could be used for home learning, at work or in college locations.

The travel geography CD-ROM, which covers Europe, global topics and tourist options, is aimed at 16-24-year-olds. It costs ú79 for the two discs, or ú495 for a multi-user network licence.

British Airways Travel Shops has been the first customer to place an order for a network licence covering 20 computers at its training centre in London.

Holyoake said the TTC had got one or two ideas for other CD-ROMs, but was not going to jump in with them until it had seen how well the first one works. One option is releasing a CD-ROM about air fares and ticket programmes.

Meanwhile, the TTChas appointed Delia Howes as marketing executive. She will be responsible for the company’s marketing communications strategy and the production of brochures and other materials for the travel industry.

Howes replaces Nelly Gentric, who has left in order to travel abroad.
