SINGAPORE Airlines has moved closer to the Star Alliance by reaching an agreement to form a wide-ranging partnership with founder member Air Canada.
The deal, which involves codesharing, schedule co-ordination, joint lounge and frequent flyer co-operation, will be signed in March in time for the summer schedule and phased in during 1999.
SIA has yet to say when it will join Star Alliance. It has already signed agreements with the other founder members, Lufthansa and SAS, and is set for a deal with United Airlines.
The carrier currently has an extensive partnership with Air New Zealand and Ansett Australia – both set to join the Star Alliance this year – to serve the UK .
