Name game is nothing new

THE pressure used by Airtours on Eurocamp’s use of ‘Holidaymaker’ (Travel Weekly January 6) serves to illustrate yet again that there is nothing new in the travel industry.

Over 30 years ago, Fortes promoted the word as an umbrella branding to link three recently purchased tour operators. Hickie Borman Holidays, Milbanke (Flair) Holidays and Swans Tours were known as “Fortes – The Holiday Makers”. I can’t remember how far the project progressed, though there was some use in trade brochures. Perhaps Airtours and Eurocamp may have to compensate Fortes for unauthorised use of its trading name!
