Holiday Hypermarkets to repeat 24hr opening

HOLIDAY Hypermarkets is considering repeating its 24hr opening in busy periods after hailing its trial session a success.

Holiday Hypermarkets managing director John Donnelly said 180 people visited its Telford branch between 7pm and 9am on February 2-3.

The branch took bookings from 55 clients, including a couple who organised and booked their honeymoon at 2.30am.

Other would-be customers coming into the shop included clubbers returning from a night out enquiring about Club 18-30 holidays and a family with a baby who wouldn’t go to sleep.

Donnelly said the company was considering repeating the open-all-hours approach in busy periods, for example when the 2000 brochures come out in April.

Of the opening experiment, he said: “I was surprised by how many people came through the door.

“This has told me that a lot of people want to book holidays late in the evening.

“At the moment we close at 7pm, but now we are considering 10pm. We had all sorts of people coming in including many shift workers.

“A lot of them came in at 3am on their breaks but the busiest time was before midnight and after 6am when the shift workers clocked off.

“Even if they are not working at night, people lead different lifestyles now and are more willing to shop late at night.”
