Foreign Office urges tourists to avoid visiting Yemen

THE FOREIGN Office has advised against all non-essential travel to Yemen following the death of four British tourists during a kidnapping incident.

The people killed were among a group of 16 tourists who were taken hostage during a holiday organised by Hampshire-based tour operator Explore Worldwide.

An Explore Worldwide spokeswoman said a second group of 16 clients holidaying in Yemen at the same time had been flown home, and all future holidays cancelled for the foreseeable future.

She claimed Explore Worldwide had managed to project itself as a responsible company over the duration of the kidnapping incident.

“We always follow Foreign Office advice, and have systems in place to react quickly,” she explained. “There is always a senior manager ready to go within an hour if something happens abroad.”

The spokeswoman added that the company had been operating holidays to Yemen for 10 years, with no incident before now.
