US SPECIALIST Jetlife has expanded its Hawaii brochure in a move to capitalise on the growth of the South Pacific.

Called Hawaii and Beyond, the programme now features all six islands with the addition in 2000 of Lanai and Molokai. Also new are the Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoa and New Zealand.

Product director Gary Grieve said the combination of Hawaii and other South Pacific destinations will target those wanting to travel beyond the islands.

“The logic is that because Hawaii is part of the US, brochures combine the two destinations,” said Grieve. “But we have taken the logic that Hawaii is in the middle of the Pacific and that people want to travel beyond Hawaii. Customers have requested it in the past although it has never been featured in the brochure.”

Grieve added that the new additions will double carryings although he declined to reveal passenger numbers. The operator is featuring one hotel in each of the four new South Pacific destinations although it has access to non-brochured accommodation.

Grieve said around 75% of customers to Hawaii take two or three centre, tailor-made holidays. Extra staff are being recruited to cope with demand.

“Only a relatively small percentage take a package to Hawaii and don’t go elsewhere,” he said. “Tailor-made itineraries make for high-value business.”

Among the multi-centre options include 13 nights combining Los Angeles, Waikiki and Fiji for £1,499. Single centre stays start at £599 for seven nights at the Marc Hawaiian in Waikiki.

Grieve added that an Australia option may feature if the programme takes off.

“This is experimental and if things go well there’s no reason why Australia should not be included,” he said.
