Connect prepares for call-centre staff hike

CONNECT Car Rental is in the process of recruiting members of staff for its new call centre, based in Luton.

Currently, the company’s call-centre workforce consists of the equivalent of 30 full-time positions. Managing director Adrian Duthie wants to increase the figure to 50 by the summer, with staff working seven days a week.

Duthie said:”June and July are our biggest months, so we want to get people in place soon to get them trained up in time for the rush.”

He insists that the call centre, which will open next month, will be a pleasant atmosphere to work in.

He said:”Our working environment is not a sweat shop. The new call centre is roomy and has been designed with the staff in mind. People have their own space and the chance to speak to people next to them. You get out of people what you put in.”

Unlike many call centres, the Connect reservation centre is staffed by people from all age groups.

“The team is made up of people from 16-60 years of age. We want to get the right balance of people with different backgrounds and skills.

“Reservations staff have to put themselves in the mind of the customer and trying to do that when you are a young person with not much experience can be difficult.”
