Going Places axes further 18 positions
GOING Places is to get rid of 18 more jobs in its latest round of cost cuts to try to improve profitability. The retailer is reducing its number of divisional sales managers from five to three, with Kim Chapman and Lisa Russell losing their jobs.
In addition, the number of area sales managers will be reduced from 46 to 30.
New UKLGretail managing director Terry Fisher said although those who lose their jobs would be able to take redundancy, the Airtours group was intending to offer them other positions.
“There are lots of other positions elsewhere,” he said. “Hopefully we will be able to accommodate them within the group. We need to continue restructuring in Going Places. The divisional sales managers have not lost their jobs because they were bad but simply because we have decided to restructure the sales teams so that we have north, south and central teams.”
Fisher said he would also look at cutting costs at Travelworld but stressed changes at the Huddersfield-based agency would be minimal.
“Travelworld is already set up as a low-cost retailer, so we won’t be making the same sort of cuts. But we will be examining the situation.”
