Comment: The Globes encapsulated the current mood in the travel industry

There was a lot of talk about ‘Blue Monday’ in the run-up to this week, but if the Globe Travel Awards were anything to go by, the travel industry is feeling far from blue at the moment.

Nobody can be complacent about the challenges ahead, but while booking momentum remains strong and consumer confidence belies the predictions of many, the last thing the industry can afford to do is fail to capitalise on this positive momentum for as long as possible.

It was great to see the Globes return to its rightful place at the start of the year and, as always, it was a fantastic way to bring people together and celebrate what makes our industry special.

We had dazzling performances, incredible competitions and plenty of entertainment, but the real stars of the show were the shortlisted suppliers and winners who took home the coveted awards thanks to tens of thousands of votes from their travel agent partners.

You can read about the spectacular ceremony and our winners in this week’s issue and make sure you pick up next week’s magazine for our full photo special and check out our social channels for videos and reaction from the night.

As you would expect, the cruise sector was well represented at the Globes, and the same can be said for this week’s cruise-themed special edition, sponsored by Royal Caribbean International.

The sector continues to showcase its support for the travel trade, and you can read all the latest news, views and product recommendations in print and in the digital version of this week’s issue.
