Almost £12,000 raised for Globe Travel Awards charity

Almost £12,000 was raised for charity at this year’s Globe Travel Awards, allowing an additional 250 girls in Zambia to be re-enrolled in full-time education.

The nominated charity for this year’s event was Play it Forward, which was founded by Attraction Tickets chief executive Oliver Brendon (pictured) and uses a ‘sport for development’ approach to providing education and health activities for young people in the south of the African country.

Brendon said the £11,600 raised in donations from Globes guests at the Grosvenor House hotel would allow Play it Forward to significantly expand one of its projects.

“We were overwhelmed with the response to Play It Forward at the Globes,” Brendon said. “Our charity is already working with Comic Relief to help re-enrol 750 girls into full time education, and the money we raised on the night will enable us to increase this number to 1,000 girls.

“The ripple effects on local communities of educated, empowered and healthy young women – and especially young women who play amazing football – is enormous.”

Brendon added: “Our trustees cover all the overheads of running Play It Forward so every penny we raised on the night will go towards a project in Southern Zambia.  Thank you so much to all those who donated.  We are absolutely delighted.”
