Aviation minister also given responsibility for maritime issues

Changes in ministerial responsibilities at the transport department has seen responsibility for both aviation and maritime fall under a single minister again.

Baroness Charlotte Vere is taking on both industry sectors, while handing over local transport to newly appointed minister Richard Holden.

The change at the Department for Transport reflects the role taken by Robert Courts when he was minister for aviation and maritime in the Boris Johnson administration.

The DfT has yet to confirm which brief new minister Huw Merriman, former chair of the Commons transport committee, will take on under new transport secretary Mark Harper.

Baroness Vere tweeted: “Delighted to be continuing as aviation minister at DfT and to take on the role of maritime minister too.

“I am sad to lose local transport, but it will be in excellent hands @RicHolden.”

Agent Ashley Quint, of TravelTime World, took to Twitter to say he was looking forward to Baroness Vere appearing at Abta’s Travel Matters conference next month.

Anne-Marie Trevelyan took on responsibility for maritime issues in her short tenure as transport secretary before being shifted and replaced by Harper after Rishi Sunak replaced Liz Truss as prime minister.
