New transport secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan has taken on responsibility for maritime issues including the cruise industry rather than delegating to a junior minister.
The maritime role was previously handled at the Department for Transport by Robert Courts, who also held the brief for aviation before he left following the government reshuffle instigated by prime minister Liz Truss.
As part of the restructure Trevelyan has assumed the maritime role in addition to her overall responsibilities at the DfT plus security, civil contingencies and supply chains.
Her responsibilities have now been confirmed on the DfT website, with four ministers reported to her instead of five under previous transport secretary Grant Shapps.
As previously reported, aviation has been taken on by former roads minister Baroness Vere together with space, international, local transport, active travel, corporate and SME. She also deputises on security and civil contingencies and covers all the DfT’s business in the Lords.
All rail matters come under Kevin Foster, new to the DfT.
Other ministers at the transport department include Lucy Frazer, who has taken on decarbonisation and the environment as part of a list of responsibilities.
The other minister at the DfT is Katherine Fletcher, who is also minister for women.
