UPDATED: Bomb disposal unit dealing with ‘suspicious item’ at Glasgow airport

Glasgow airport has now reopened after a bomb disposal unit attended this morning (December 5) following reports of a suspicious item in the security search hall.

A Police Scotland statement said this morning: “Around 5.55 am on Monday, 5 December 2022, police were called to a report of a suspicious item within the security search hall of Glasgow Airport. As a precaution the check-in and security hall areas were closed to the public.”

It added: “The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) is in attendance and a cordon is now in place. Staff and members of the public have been moved from the check-in area to the multi-storey car park.”

The BBC reported that officers were sent to the scene “following concern over an item in a passenger’s bag”.

Shortly after noon, the airport announced: “Police Scotland have confirmed the incident has been stood down and our staff are now in the process of welcoming passengers back into the terminal and providing any assistance required. We would like to thank our passengers for their patience.”

The police said: “Following examination of the item by the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD), it was confirmed that it posed no risk to the public and was innocent in nature. All areas of the airport are in the process of being re-opened.”
