A British couple were among four people killed in a mid-air collision between two helicopters operating tourist flights near a theme park in Australia.
The crash occurred near Sea World on Queensland’s Gold Coast on Monday.
Local reports say one helicopter taking off carrying seven people collided with another coming into land with six people on board.
The UK victims were named as Diane and Ron Hughes from Liverpool. A helicopter pilot also died as well as an Australian woman.
Others suffered serious injuries, including boys aged ten and nine years old.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has started an investigation into the cause of the collision.
Sea World Helicopters, a separate company from the theme park, said it was “devastated by the tragic accident which happened on the Gold Coast on the 2nd January.
“Our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to all those involved over this very sad time.
“We are closed until further notice and will refund all tickets purchased. Please bear with us during this very difficult time as we process your refund.”
Theme park owner Village Roadshow Theme Parks (VRTP) offered its deepest condolences to all those impacted by the helicopter tragedy.
It added: “While Sea World Helicopters is an independent professional operator, VRTP is working with emergency services and the authorities to provide every possible assistance.
“Sea World Helicopters is closed until further notice and we will provide updates in due course.”
