Emirates’ Airbus A380 superjumbo has returned to Birmingham airport for the first time since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
The daily A380 is in addition to an existing Boeing 777 service to Dubai.
The deployment of the double-decker aircraft, capable of carrying up to 615 passengers, comes as global travel demand continues to increase ahead of the summer peak period.
The resumption of the Birmingham service follows daily A380 flights returning to Glasgow in March.
The airline first launched A380 flights from Birmingham in 2016.
The airline plans to ramp up its four-class A380 operations featuring premium economy cabins to more than 35 destinations across 20 countries by March 2024 in a $2 billion retrofit scheme.
Emirates UK divisional vice president Richard Jewsbury said: “The return will make it easier to connect more passengers to popular long-haul destinations including Thailand, Australia and of course the vibrant city of Dubai for summer and beyond.”
Birmingham airport chief executive Nick Barton added: “Whether travelling for business, leisure or family, our twice daily Dubai services are very popular with nine out of 10 seats sold on average. The extra capacity offered by the A380 will be welcomed by Emirates customers.”
