First day of Southampton airport strikes suspended

A strike by staff at Southampton airport tomorrow (Saturday) has been called off.

The day of action will no longer go ahead after the airport confirmed an improved pay offer was agreed and will be put to staff.

However, uncertainty remains over two further days of strikes set for later in the month after members of the Unite union voted in favour of strike action.

Airport workers, including operations controllers, firefighters, technicians and engineering staff, announced plans last week for 24-hour walkouts on November 5, 12 and 19.

A Southampton airport spokesperson told local media: “Following positive talks with the trade unions at ACAS, an improved offer will now be put to staff.

“As a result, the planned industrial action for Saturday 5 November has been cancelled meaning it will be business as usual for our passengers and airlines.”

Unite said Saturday’s action had been suspended while members consider the revised offer.
