All UK travellers to France will need to show a negative Covid-19 test from Saturday, according to a French government spokesman.
Gabriel Attal told journalists the rules would apply to all arrivals from outside the EU, regardless of vaccination status, with a PCR or antigen test acceptable if taken within 48 hours of travel.
The new rules come amid concern over the emergence of the new Omicron variant of Covid-19.
Attal was speaking after a meeting of the French government’s Defence Council. He said the exact timings for the introduction of the requirement would be clarified shortly.
Arrivals from within the EU or Schengen zone will be required to show a test result only if they are not vaccinated.
