An inquiry is being launched into recovery of airlines and airport from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The cross-party House of Commons’ transport select committee has set a deadline for evidence of October 13.
MPs on the committee will look into the government’s much criticised traffic light system for international travel and barriers to the reopening of overseas travel.
The cost and necessity of PCR testing will also be addressed.
The committee is inviting submissions on these and a range of other issues including border control, the cost of hotel quarantine, the effect of soon to be wound down furlough support on the aviation sector and re-establishing regional and global connectivity.
It will also look into how the aviation sector can support the UK’s economic recovery after the pandemic and progress on reducing emissions to support the government’s aim to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The committee, chaired by MP Huw Merriman (pictured), tweeted: “Before the coronavirus pandemic, the UK had the largest aviation network in Europe and the third biggest in the world.
“How can the aviation sector successfully recover from the pandemic?
“Today we are launching an inquiry examining that question.”
