Jersey airport remained closed this morning due to damage caused as Storm Ciarán swept across the Channel Islands.
The airport will be shut until at least 2pm today (Friday) with an announcement expected at midday to confirm whether this is possible.
Operator Ports of Jersey said: “Engineers have been assessing the damage caused by Storm Ciarán and detailed inspections of the airport estate have identified extensive infrastructure, equipment and system failures.
“We are working to remedy the faults as quickly as possible, but until the work is completed and the airport is safe, secure and compliant, it has to remain closed to commercial operations.
“We are striving to open the airport at 2pm and a further announcement at midday will confirm whether this is possible.”
The airport remains open for emergencies and medical transfers but 11 flights on Friday morning were cancelled involving British Airways, EasyJet and Blue Islands.
Jersey harbour is functioning as normal, the organisation added.
Guernsey and Alderney airports also closed on Thursday due to storm force winds.
Both airports were due to reopen at 10am today following full systems and safety checks needed before services can resume.
“Arrangements are being made to enable airlines to catch up on any backlogs due to the weather disruption,” a statement said.
Operating hours will be extended until up to 11.45pm in Guernsey and up to 9pm in Alderney.
