KLM has reinstated an early morning departure from Teesside airport to its Amsterdam Schiphol hub as part of an increased winter schedule.
The 6am daily flights are timed to connect to the Dutch carrier’s global network of more than 160 destinations.
The airline is now running the early morning and a 5.15pm flight on weekdays and Saturdays, with one afternoon flight on Sundays – a doubling of last winter’s frequency.
The summer programme saw two flights a day departing at 9.05am and 5.30pm to Schiphol.
KLM UK and Ireland general manager Fahmi Mahjoub said: “Today’s announcement is a result of the great collaborative effort between Teesside international airport and KLM to bring the world closer to the local community.
“We are delighted to reinstate the early morning service from Teesside airport and demonstrate KLM’s commitment and support to the Tees Valley region.
“With our flights to Amsterdam connecting to over 160 destinations, the world is truly at your doorstep.
“It is now even more convenient for businesses to build their network, for families to connect with their loved ones, or for anyone to simply discover to world.”
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen said: “KLM has been a great supporter of our airport for many years now.
“Our Amsterdam route remains a firm favourite and this early morning flight opens the door on invaluable connections across the globe.
“When you break it down – and cut out how long it takes to drag yourself to Manchester or London airports – catching a city break or some winter sun from Teesside saves you a lot of hassle.”
